The writer Sylvain Tesson is one of the favorite authors in France. In the movie Patagonia Wings, he goes with an expedition of the Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne (GMHM) in Patagonia. The GMHM is a small unit of the French army is specialized in the latest mountaineering techniques. During this trip they’re expecting to climb one of the needles of the Fitz Roy massif and do the first paralpinism jump from these peaks. For the five men, this daring expedition is a tribute to the pioneers of the french Aéropostale. Indeed, the needles around the Fitz Roy bear the names of the three legendary pilots, Saint Exupéry, Mermoz and Guillaumet, who crossed the Andes Cordillera and risked of their lives. The expedition is therefore both a sporting adventure and a salute to the spirit of adventure that animated these extraordinary men. Sylvain Tesson tells the story of this spectacular adventure, lived as close as possible to the action, until an unlikely outcome.
